Noel Caleb - uniting bloggers in Singapore

Noel Caleb bloggers meet-up at The Co, 75 High Street, Singapore
Noel Caleb latest collection show

Businesses are meant to be not only to make profit, but also to benefit society, active drivers of Singapore on-line clothes store Noel Caleb decided to contribute their own part and gathered bloggers and social media activists on the eve of 29th January at their fresh home ground @ The Co, new built office space at 75, High Street, that will give home mostly for non-profit organizations and start-ups.

The Co, which will be officially launched on the 1st of March, has very modern space design and comfortable free hang-out area at the basement, that will be opened for everybody as a space to work, exchange ideas and do sharing sessions. First event, handled there by Noel Caleb, brought together around 15 bloggers, whose interest is mostly in fashion, style and beauty, few of their friends joined in order to know more and start blogging journey. Young and socially active, they could get closer and discuss blogging, that they mostly do as a hobby. Instead, guest speaker shared, how she shifted from blogging as her passion to full time job and even full size web-site, planning to work on jewelry line and partnering with famous people for different projects. However, blogging still remains mainly non-profit dairy for most participants, as some of them are busy working full-time and making career or too young to consider it as real job, the youngest social junkie was 14.
Bloggers discussed questions of getting readers trust and credit, as well as how to stay honest being approached by advertisers and companies, who wants to promote through reviews. Questions of transparency and balance between making profit and staying objective, all this get to bloggers with the rise of blog popularity and increasing number of followers, as businesses see blogs as easy ground for target audiences, which are tolerant to speaker and tend to trust. From the other side, bloggers, especially those, who just start their journey, have challenge to make people trust them, get constant readers and followers. This is even more difficult for youngsters, as it's hard to make people, who are elder, to believe, that you are more competent and have more knowledge, for example, about cosmetic market, or can advise on which accessories to chose with particular outfit. Simple solution in this case is just to be as much honest, informative and helpful as you can, bringing information about latest tendencies, news, updates to your readers, then you will become indispensable source of information for them. In fashion and lifestyle it's also a question of similar taste with your followers, who should be on the same pattern with you. But considering wide range of styles today, there is no space to worry, every blogger will get his fellow mates, who share the same thoughts.
During meet-up session bloggers also could check latest clothes and accessories collections by Noel Caleb, talk about fashion trends with buyer and meet new model. All clothes was available for trying, that allowed to make new combinations and try something, that you will never imagine, fits you. Friendly hang-out was organised by WeAreSpaces, who found and arranged new home for Noel Caleb, by partners from @RSociety, Noel Caleb photographers and video producers, as well as host representative from The Co.
Meet-up are promised to be held on fortnight base, bringing together more bloggers with different interest, so who knows, maybe soon it can have movie watching format with professional comments from cinema critic or cooking session from food junkie. Anyway, it's heart warming to think, that businesses care to bring together activists, who have the same passion and it's nice to think, that you are not alone trying to express to share your thoughts in Internet. Others do too.
If you are interested to join bloggers meet-ups, get more information here. Next one is on the 6th February, place is to be confirmed.

ArtStage Singapore 2013 - art tendencies from all around the World: human masses and impersonalization, strong feelings and face perversions, simplicity and digital installations

ArtStage Singapore 2013, installation as 3d, Marina Bay Sands
Real installation, that looks like 3D image

ArtStage Singapore 2013 - main art galleries exhibition of the year in Asia just finished on the 27th of January, giving art connoisseurs idea of tendencies, that are going to drive art in nearest future. Personally I took five hours on Saturday for a pleasant non rush walk around pavilions in Marina May Sands Conventional Centre to make my opinion, talk to the artists and gallerists, hear visitors expressing their emotions and just to please my eyes, surprise myself and to adore artists, who have so much imagination to create some outstanding and unexpected pieces.

Here is some of my thoughts:
The main thing, that caught my eyes, was numerous cases of artists corrupting human faces, emphasizing impersonality of the character, but at the same time showing, strong emotions, that every one, who sees works, could almost inherit and experience the feelings of human shown at works. Perversions of the faces are so strong, that accent giving you the image of human mass and unimportance of personal features in today society.
Other leading tendency is playing with human eyes and vision, putting multiple meanings in works, that can be seen literary from different angles. Today it strengthened with the digital technologies, that allow usage of 3D effects, digital installations, visualization to create art. TV screens, mechanisms, computer codes and programs, everything is used to amaze, impress and please eyes. Painting of mobile device home screen with pictures from vacations showing our everyday life is framed within digital world, that we can't escape even for a beach.
Latest technologies, mobile devises and consumer electronics products also become topic for art exploration. Some of artists are going towards criticizing human addictions to products, especially luxury brands, showing how those can be destroyed and changed to become art pieces, challenging consumer oriented society. Artists also go against office rules, measured machine regulations, for example putting snake under one of the tables in command center or lama in office space.

The question, where individual stays in modern world and society, is in trends for decades. In most of the cases artists try to show, how small and insignificant is every human being today. Pile of clay human heads one alike other on the floor or endless rows of street facades with cafe and shops one on another. Some post communistic times artists are tend to speak ironically, showing unpleasant sides of the past.
As a pleasant variety among tendencies, there were Marc Chagal, Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol works exhibited and, of course, some of artists, who work with nudity and on the border with erotic.
Institute of Contemporary Arts Director Dr Charles Merewether highlighted couple of artists during his guiding tour on Saturday afternoon: simplicity of wall wooden installations by Kishio Suga, whose works are influenced by the time, when Japan was rebuilding after atom bombs of The Second World War. Lovely and bogging attention mixer of lines and color highlights at paintings by Ian Woo, at whose pieces you can stare hours just following lines and still finding new details and ideas. Simplicity and death of colors in paintings by Luke Heng, last year student of Institute of Contemporary Arts, that is part of Lasalle College of Arts Singapore. Genius ability of Italian Jannis Kounellis to combine general objects giving putting new meaning to whole composition and representing Poverty Art and introducing it to "high" society. Generally, Dr Merewether's highlights were about simplicity of genial art pieces.
Anyway, make your opinion by taking look at the pictures below, that reflect art, that surprised or impressed me in any way. Full load of pictures from Saturday is here

ApArt Fair is featuring artists in Hotel - don't be surprised to see art pieces in toilet and on the beds at Conrad Hotel, Singapore

Art Stage 2013, I was writing about in other posts, wasn't the only venue to see arts last weekend. While it provided space to galleries from all around the World, ApArt Fair launched The First Hotel Art exhibition in Singapore, featuring mainly individual artists in real rooms at Conrad Continental Hotel  on the weekend  of 26th - 27th January.

Week before ApArt opened Fair Frindge, from 18th January 11 Singapore artists were featured at 9 stores of Millenia Walk mall to offer full shopping experience of buying goods and art at the same place. But starting from eve of 25th January Singapore art connoisseurs could experience something completely new - seeing art shown not only placed on the walls of 40 rooms on the 23rd, 24th levels of Conrad Hotel, but also on chairs and on the floor, on beds and windows and even toilet bowls and bathroom sinks. Some of the pieces actually fit hotel atmosphere quite well. Pictures say better, than words in this case.

Wearable Art - Hermes Scarfs in "Couleurs de L'Ombre" by Hiroshi Sugimoto

Couleurs de L'Ombre" - "Colors of Shadow", Hiroshi Sugimoto, Tyler Print Institute, Singapore, Hermes EditeurSince I first raised the question of using art in every day life visiting "The Sew-Out Show"tcc last Friday and then writing about it in my blog, I started to pay attention to different attempts of the artists to implement art in life. At the eve of 22nd of January Hermès Éditeur opened showcase "Couleurs de L'Ombre" - "Colors of Shadow" by Japanese Hiroshi Sugimoto at Tyler Print Institute in Syngapore

20 of morning sunlights shots captured by Sugimoto for last ten years were chosen by artist and Hermes Editeur Pierre-Alexis Dumas to be printed on silk scarfs. Each shot showing morning lights in various colors, as being captured using different prisms, was printed only in seven copies, forming limited collection of  140 Hermes scarfs 140 x 140 cm. All items are featured and up for purchase at Tyler Print Institute @ 41 Robertson Quay from Tue to Sat from 10am to 6 pm until 2nd of March. There is also daily video screening at 2.30 pm.
"Colors of Shadow" collection is the result of third edition of "carré d’artiste" by Hermes Editors, who launched "Hommage au carré" - "Homages to the Square" by Josef Albers in 2008 and "Photos-souvenirs au carré" - "Squared Photo-Memories" by Daniel Buren in 2010.
