To be a programmer, scientist, computer guru and technical professional don't mean to be isolated from society introvert, who never goes out and socialize. So decided Miriam Hochwald and the talented Scholars of the Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship (AU/NZ) and Google, when they started GGC - Geek Girls Coffees Meetups around Australia & New Zealand in 2009. That was 4 years ago, when first meeting was organized, and today GGC has 64 chapters around the World, mainly in every city or near university campuses in Australia and New Zealand, but other continents catch up as well with Coffees in Canada, United States and United Kingdom and South America. And now with the launch of GeekGirlsCoffees in Singapore.

On the eve of 26th of April around 40 Geeks gathered for a first meeting in Google office in Singapore @Asia One Square. On a side note, Geek Girls are about balance and diversity, so male supporters are welcomed as well, and this time around third of the crowd were guys, that can't not to please, as males shows such an interest to participate in women activities and meetup, discuss topics and support initiatives.

You would not believe, but since I started to go for art exhibitions in Singapore, yesterday was the first time I saw piece of art I was ready to buy here and now, and I was such in love with it from the first glance... And it was not even one particular work, but whole series, concept and feeling... And just imagine, that this happened to me, not at the Art Stage, the main exhibition of the year in Singapore, not at the internationally well-known galleries openings, like Bartoux-Singapore, I was writing about, but at the opening of the last chapter within The Lasalle Show 2013, that is mainly featuring students works. 

I was visiting ICA Galleries Lasalle College of Arts quite often this year to check, what are the ideas of fresh graduates and students and to see, where art development in Asia is going to, so some of the interesting show cases I shared in previous posts. Especially memorable for me was Parallax Between_Borders: Singapore_China as some reminds of my China life experience. Other exhibitions were also interesting and I found some new tendencies. I put the list of show cases I wrote about at the end of this post, so you can check by yourself ideas of young artists, pics of their works and  my thoughts regarding it. But here and now is THE story, how did I meet MY BRAIN-BLOWING ART...
At the eve of 25th of April art-lovers, students, friends and professors gathered at the ICA Gallery 2 for opening of the truly mind-blowing showcase "Magic bullet". Lasalle College of Arts was finishing academic year, featuring works of Erika Norris, Jying Tan and Phuong Dang, graduates of Faculty of Fine Arts one and half year master program.

Being expat is not only endless pleasure, but also is continuous challenge to adapt in new environment, to accept some rules and blend into other cultures. It's also challenge to find new friends and make circles of people around. It's twice hard, if you are looking to socialize and have pleasant time with family, as it should fit in timetable of hardworking dads and be resting time for busy moms, it should be enjoyed by children of all ages and fun for teenagers.

And what can be more uniting and enjoyable than sports and games hangouts together with all family on Sunday... Out, just to enjoy chilly weekends afternoons in Singapore, when it's already not so hot for a day and sun slowly going down. 

While Singaporeans are concentrated on to achievements in individual sports such as badminton and table tennis, Taekwondo lessons in community clubs and different kinds of marshal arts in numerous centers, running marathons and even challenging for triathlons, expats are tend to bring their home games to Singapore and found mini-clubs, playing their favorite sports, just for fun and leisure.

If we will play the game of associations, we will certainly name cricket for British, football for Germans, Italians, Spanish, rugby for Newzealanders etc., etc. But surprisingly, for US Americans, neither basketball nor American football work in our story, because US American families in Singapore are enjoying lacrosse. I haven't even heard about this game, until my friend introduces it to me. Sticks, lots of running, goals, balls, after trying to understand the game from explanations, I watched couple of Youtube videos, so can you do. Apparently, lacrosse is popular in US and even one of the sports in schools. Clubs have national cups and people are following their teams. And male teams even have their own designed helmets as part of outfit. Wow, that was like whole new world for me.

And here comes my chance to watch the game life... On beautiful sunny hot Sunday afternoon, on the 20th of April 2013, First time ever Singapore was hosting international Lacrosse match against team from Hong-Kong, and, moreover, at the heart of Singapore, at Padang field, Singapore Cricket Club Ground, with the stunning view to Marina Bay Sands Hotel, City Business District highskapers.

 Since very begining, even before official opening, when only interior and communications were ready for use, The Co building @ 75, High Street in Singapore is home for active and creative, entrepreneurs and start-ups, communities and hag-outs. It started with bloggers gathering by Noel Caleb on the 29th of January, then proceed with hosting of Noel Caleb 'Jonah' fashion collection launch, that included Models X Bloggers Search, Models Gatherings and Trainings, shooting and recording sessions, Clothes Fitting, I was writing about in my Blog. Meanwhile, The Co started to host OpenCoffee Club meetings - gathering for start-ups and entrepreneurs. Official opening on the 20th of March with hand-made coctails from Bar Stories was just great networking for business activists. And since then The Co just started to be place for different communities and business circles.

Working in Social Media and Marketing I got to know not only how does new on-line works and influences peoples' minds, thoughts and interests and drives actions, but also some hidden insights, that are not obvious to usual users of social platforms.

Literary being 8 hours per day in Facebook, I was very skeptical about all Fanpages contests, giveaways, competitions for most Likes and Shares. From simple pictures of cute babies with most "Likes" at communities pages for bored mums to almost junky spamming "Best deals" Fan Pages, all of them just wanted to get audience to spread the word in future or just combine database of people by getting access to their contact information and basic features. Using this database they could filter and target audiences  spotting those, who are likely to buy their or partners' products. There were common cases, when that databases were used not only to promote partners, but were just simply sold to third parties for further usage. The rules are simple - by Liking and Sharing Pages we allow page owners to access our personal data and sometimes even our friends lists. Moreover, games and applications will ask your permission to post from your behalf on your wall, that will appear in News Feed of your friends...

Шри-Ланка – остров Цейлона – для людей, родившихся и выросших в Совестком Союзе, вечно будет ассоциироваться с желтой упаковкой чая «Со слоном». А ведь и правда, Советский маркетинг ничего не преувеличивал. Слоны и чай на Шри-Ланке есть. А еще высоко в горах, между чайными плантациями стоит хижина, откуда сэр Липтон начал руководить своей быстро-растущей империей. Сегодня туристы ездят на так называемую площадку Липтона, откуда он созерцал высокогорья острова и бесконечные плантации чая...
И трудно поверить, что чай на Шри-Ланке начали выращивать только в конце 19 века, когда плантации кофе были убиты вирусом, и трудно поверить, что слоны на Шри-Ланке пережили 29 лет гражданской войны, окончившейся всего 3 года назад, и трудно поверить, что стычки не стерли улыбки с лиц людей, и рыбаки до сих пор каждый день выходят в море за новым уловом... И наверное, мало кто знает, что Шри-Ланка – это буддистская страна с религиозной историей более двух тысяч лет. И в целом, Шри-Ланка это свосем не Индия, пускай, это и остров в Индийском океане.

Fashion brand and on-line store Noel Caleb launched Jonah collection on the 23rd of March at the on the 44th floor of The Sail, 160 guests, bloggers, photographers, lifestyle, fashion junkies gathered for Saturday midday private party at the posh suite of one of the best condos in Singapore, overlooking Marina Bay Sands... 

Debuting as a model, I got a chance to see inside of event preparation and experience all of it from the beginning to the end. Here it is.

Beauties arrived to the venue at 7.30 am, and quickly set up for makeup and hairdo by the Makeup artists, RiaLeila DelaCruz-Maynes, Cruzin Ica Muñoz, Pippin Emerald , Sharon Pow, Imaah Zai, and others. Meanwhile Noel Caleb team was preparing venue and ironing our outfits. Special thanks to Rain, who made my smokey eyes look for a show. It was great girls hang out before show, as we were taking pictures, laughing, making hair to each other and, of course, training our walks a bit to the end. Then we dressed and hanged out with the guests, who started to arrive at 12 pm for a lunch. 1 pm - couple of touch-ups - messing curls and a little bit of more gloss to the lips, and here we are behind the curtain listening to Eileen's speech and video interviews, that were recorded week ago...

Love, Love, Love - I can repeat again and again about my outfits for Noel Caleb Jonah collection launch, that will be on the 23rd of March from 12pm to 3pm on the 44th floor of The Sail, the posh suite of one of the best condos in Singapore, overlooking Marina Bay Sands...

Yesterday Jonah models had first trial of outfits at the usual venue, @ The Co  Noel Caleb's home ground. And I'm so happy, that I got to run in two dresses. Not shorts and blouse, not skirt, but the best outfit for ladies - dresses. Especially I think, it's cool, as Singapore is dresses city. Always hot, but you have to be style chic at the office and after... Just non-stop.

Jonah collection has 4 parts, 10 models will show two outfits each, and I'm so proud to be in closing part under 'Success' section, that is all about confidence and colors. I will be showing bright blue dress - that blue is my favorite color and I know it matches my blond hair and green-blue eyes. Just wonder, what accessories and makeup will complete my perfect look, but this is still mister even for me. I guess only designers know. My dress for the first part is cream-brown-coffee-with-milk colors mix. The thing, that I love about it, is, it suits me perfectly and shape my figure like never! So I'm excited to run in it, and going to bring my brown super high heels for that. 

Two other parts of the collection are pants and knee-high boots outfits, and white top - black skirt combinations, that are kind of official office style.

Иногда мне кажется, что первооткрыватели и пионеры с Запада, привезя на Восток все изобретения цивилизации, позабыли научить азиатов ими пользоваться или, по крайней мере, пользоваться аккуратно и разумно.

Вот посудите сами, наводненные мотоциклами улицы Джакарты, самого зашумленного трафиком города Азии, тысячи моторов на улицах Тайпея и все поголовно в масках. Полюция, загрязнения, мусор и неорганизованность. Даже после трех столетий управления французы, датчане, британцы, покидая свои колонии в середине двадцатого века, не смогли оставить правильно спланированных кварталов городов или хоть сколько-нибудь организованных транспортных узлов. И дело касается не только транспорта, но и бизнеса вообще. 

Будучи колониями, принужденными выращивать сырье для своих управленцев, азиатские страны не научились вести бизнес на успех. Политика сбыта все еще строится по принципу сколько купят, а остальное сами съедим. И часто вместо работы бизнесмены устраиваются на крепкий сон в саду под пальмой после обеда. И не удивительно, свое берут и жаркий климат, и жирная обильная пища. Просто невозможно не то, что работать, а просто выйти из тени в полдень. Тропическое солнце нещадно, а наесться вдовль после столетий голода просто роскошь, показывающая твой достаток. 

Нередко вдоль дорог и у ресторанов можно увидеть специально устроенные общественные навесы с гамаками в тени. Устоять просто невозможно.

Continuing to tell you about my model experience with Noel Caleb, that I was writing about couple of times, today I want to share some updates from our Jonah Show preparations. First model training was conducted on the 5th of March at usual place @ The Co. Professional model Jessica Ee, who is also chosen to run for Jonah under #9, gave some tips, how to walk on the runway, shared secrets, how to turn, look and stay straight, showing best of your outfit. 

Every girl tried herself walking on high heals, got comments from the trainer and girls. It was fun experience, but still was hard to realize and imagine, that real runway, more of laugh and relax. After all, it was time to get to know each other, as some models as Cattleya Clarisa were participating at the previous shows and could share their experience with newbies like us, bloggers. Each walking test was recorded to be analysed for girls future learning and improving. At the same time, there was last stage of outfits matching by designers of Jonah collection, I was writing about in previous post. And prof photographer was shooting girls in new collection outfits to chose the main face for a campaign. I love to take my pictures during my travelling and sightseeing around Asia, but I usually don't like to be pictured with white background of studio. As I don't see point for me to be isolated from the World. And it's quite hard to put any expressions on your face, as there is no background, that will support it. But that time I was excited about me being a model and trying new outfit, so I could relax and give some smile and pose a little bit in front of camera, even though the light was blinding. They say you need to think about something, remember pleasant moments, don't look at the camera. That's why some model look so out of the place on advertisements. They are just not with us, but somewhere in their own dreams. Somehow, I can't do this kind of cheating, I need to give a real smile, real emotion, because I think about people, who will see my pictures. Well, maybe I still consider that all that viewers will be my friends... Yes, it's different for models. They will be seen by thousands people... I suppose, nobody can smile to every customer walking inside the shop, restaurant, office... People get tired to put fake smiles to strangers.

On the eve of 6th of March, Singapore based professionals of Hospitality markets gathered for the second time at Winedown Wednesdays at Rendezvous Grand Hotel @ 9 Bras Basar Road. Event was gently organised by ACI - HR Solutions in Travel & Hospitality and supported by HSMAI, Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association and brought together usual members and new attendees. 

Guests enjoyed chatting and networking with wine and refreshments, catered by Rendezvous Grand Hotel, as well as lucky draw bottles of wine. CEO of ACI HR Andrew Chan was center of attention and  shown true hospitality, introducing guests to each other and welcoming first time participants.

HMSAI is continuously organizing events for Hospitality sphere professionals all around Asia , next one in Singapore is Breakfast Seminar "MICE Business in Singapore: Today and Tomorrow" on the 4th of April. As for events in Australia, Thailand, China, check calendar.

The level of popularity of the event was truly proved by increased number of sponsors and partners, who supported event. Except ACI - HR and HSMAI Asia Pacific, gathering got coverage from Infor, Web in Travel and E Global.

Преодолеть себя. В одиночку и дешево не значит опасно. Качественное путешествие

Диковинные иностранцы - Камбоджа, Плавучие деревни, Батамбан

Я путешествую много, долго и качественно. Всегда планирую поездки и нахожу интересные места, никогда не хожу туристическими маршрутами и выбираю тропы, где не встретишь других путешественников, и только местные будут кричать тебе приветствия вслед. Найти еще не хоженные места, особенно с Азии не составляет труда. Достаточно просто взять билет в нетуристическом напрвалении, или сесть на местный автобус без кондиционера, направляющийся в населенный пункт с непроизносимым названием. Джунгли, горы, острова полны маленьких деревень, где люди живут тысячу лет, просто выращивая рис на полях.

После двух лет в Азии я видела много. Но не пьяные пляжные дискотеки Патайи или переполненые пляжи Бали. Я видела, как живут люди, как прекрасна и необычна природа, как богат растительный мир, как разнообразна культура даже в одной маленькой стране. Я могу рассказать об удивительных традициях и необычных животных. Я могу поделиться фотографиями жерла действующих вулканов и тысячелетних храмов. Я могу подсказать, где лучшие пляжи в Азии, где лучший массаж в том или ином городе,  самая дешевая гостиница, или как организовать поездку в горы. Общаясь с попутчиками в транспорте или путешественниками в отелях, я сначала щедро делилась информацией, советовала, рассказывала свои впечатления... Куда бы ни направлялись другие, я всегда могла сказать, что я уже была там и начинала забрасывать людей информацией. Они удивлялись, слушали, иногда не могли поверить, что я действительно так много видела и знаю. Я гордилась тем, что могу помочь, посоветовать, что я так много знаю и везде была первой.

Однажды в автобусе из МуйНе в ХоШиМин я встретила немку, которая совершала трехнедельный новогодний тур по Индостану. Конечно же, она стала делиться своими планами, а я рассказывать про свой опыт. Она робко спросила про пересечения границы, потом про автобус, ответы были у меня наготове. Но в один момент я поняла, что моё всезнание лишает ее элемента приключения и ожидания побывать в тех или иных местах. Рассказывая, как и что работает на границе, я лишаю ее возможности почувствовать себя первопроходцем и получить удовольствие от открытия новых мест, получения может и негативного , и сумасшедшего, но своего опыта. Я как будто показываю ей заранее, что она увидит. А ведь большинство путешественников с запада ищут именно приключений в Азии, едут сюда за элементом неожиданности, жклая сделать для себя маленькие отрытия. Моя попутчица была старше меня дет на десять, но после двуз слов стало ясно, что я видела и путешествовала в разы больше... Разговор вяло перетекал от одной темя к другой, я упомянула и про путешествия по Европе, она про деловые поездки в Африку.

На остановке она спрашивала меня, пробовала ли я эти странные кубики клейкого риса, и правда ли смесь закусок в пакете – традиционая сингапурская... На что я поделилась с ней своими кулинарными экспериментами, которые начались еще в Китае. Уже в конце пути, после долгого молчания, моя попутчица неожиданно сказала: «Тебе нужно съездить в Алжир. Побродить по маленьким улочкам, базарам, под ярким солнцем». Она поделилась, что обожает мозаичные орнаменты и узоры, вязь на глазури, яркий голубой на белом, краски дня и блеск ночи. На что я не подумав спросила – это как в Турции? Моя попутчица осеклась, я поняла, что своими сравнениями подавляю ее желание поделиться своим уникальным опытом и рассказать мне о чем-то, чего я еще не видела...

С тех пор я стала осторожнее рассказывать о своих поездках, по возможности делиться советами только когда меня спрашивают, не забивать голову людям своими впечатлениями и не лишать их возможности открыть для себя новые горизонты и составить свое представление.

Двумя днями позже я встретила поляка, который только начинал свой путешествие по Вьетнаму. Я могла бы целый день рассказывать ему про города и места, которые нужно посетить во Вьетнаме, и как лучше всего передвигаться, и где остановиться... Но услышав, что у него всего 10 дней, и например, только один день в Далате, я не стала разочаровывать его, что на самом деле, в этом городе делать нечего, а лучше всего поехать на рафтинг или каньонинг по окрестным горам. В конце концов, это его путешествие и, может быть, рынок и сад цветов, которые абсолютно не интересны для меня, так как я была на рынках в десятках городов, будут для него хорошим опытом погружения в реальную азиатскую действительность.

Я попыталась вспомнить мои первые поездки по Вьетнаму. Я ведь тоже бродила по рынку и глазела на продавцов из деревень и диковинные офощи гигантских размеров, и как ловко женщины бьют головой об мостовую извивающуюся и еще живую рыбу, а потом разделывают её для покупателя, и как сворачиваю головы курицам, когда домохозяйки выбрали себе экземпляр. Ведь еще живой товар – самый лучший показатель свежести продаваемого мяса. Я фотографировала краски специй и десяток сортов риса, выставленного на одном прилавке. Все это было интересно для меня, когда я только начала исследовать Азию. Потом я видела десятки таких базаров и они перестали удивлять меня, стали частью моей жизни, я перестала быть туристом, перестала фотографировать и удивляться, просто стала ходить и делать покупки для обеда. Я стала немножко азиаткой, ведь местные не ходят по рынку, чтобы посмотреть диковинные товары, не делают тысячи фотографий. Но я не могу лишать других того опыта, который я получила, открывая Азию для себя. Поэтому я просто послушала про планы моего попутчика. Ответила на вопросы по поводу транспорта и предоставила ему самому получить порцию приключений и удивлений.

Однажды я встретила сингапурца, который рассказывал про посещение его родной траны, давал советы, все его внимательно слушали... Я молчала, но когда подошел мой черед представиться, и я поделилась, что живу в Сингапуре, он сразу стал апеллировать ко мне, как к кому-то, кто может подтвердить его мнение. Мне же не хотелось его обижать и вступать в полемику, объяснять, что шопинг и еда – это не то, что привлекает меня, поэтому эти возможности Сингапура никак мной не оцениваются.

С другой стороны, пеерсекшись в одном из автобусов во Вьетнаме с бизнесменом тайваньцем, я с открытым ртом слушала его рассказы о горной части его родного острова. Он даже нашел в интернете фотографии скал и обрывов, видов на океан и чайных плантаций. Начав с того, что я провела в Тайване две недели в бизнес-городах, на побережье и в национальных парках, чем аболютно обескуражила своего попутчика, я закончила наш разговор заверениями в том, что обязательно вернусь на Тайвань еще раз, чтоб увидеть все то, чем поделился со мной мой попутчик. Про себя же я думала, как много всего интересного таит в себе всего один остров в 300 км длиной, и что я видела всего малую часть его, да и то, однобоко.

Но это разговоры  иностранцами-такими же петешественниками, как и я, а вот с местными – дело совсем другое. Чаще всего, они не так богаты, раз едут общественным транспортом, и оказывается, что я побывала в их родной стране везде, тогда как они, могут только мечтать о горах пляжах или отдыхе н побережьях. Да мои рассказы и восторги их страной вызывают у них гордость, но мне всегда грустно думать, что у них нет возможности увидеть и вохититься красотами своей страны. С другой стороны, родившись в горах они так привыкли к видам плантаций с детства, что у них нет никакого желания фотографировать ландшафт, однако будучи простыми людьми, они даже не задумываются о том, что никогда не видели моры, которое находится всегов двустах километрах от них. У них просто нет жажды открытий, но есть насущная потребность прокормить своих детей каждый день. Но это уже другая история...

Другая тема – на которую мне всегда приходится защищать свою позицию соло  - безопасноть. Я довольно опытный путешественник, чтобы не ходить одной по ночам в темных переулках. Я встаю в 6 утра и всегда плотно и неспеша завтракаю, зато в 7 я уже готова к открытию музеев и началу путешествия. С утра – самое лучшее время, не только потому что все туристы еще в постелях, но и потому что еще не так жарко под тропическим солнцем. Целый день я шагаю пешком без устали, стараясь увидеть и вобрать в себя как можно больше впечатлений. Но вечером я стараюсь быть в гостинице около шести, с наступлением темноты, так как смотреть на неосвещенных улицах особо нечего, да и архитектурных достопримечательности, музеи и другие места уже закрыты после пяти. Так что в 8 вечера я уже так устала после дня пешком и насыщенного новыми впечатлениями, что я просто валюсь с ног и засыпаю, не обращая внимание на то что вокруг бродят соседи по хостелу, свет включен и кто-то говорит с другой страной по скайпу.

Те же, кто обычно не знают моего стиля и привычек всегда первым делом, услышав, что девушка путешествует одна по Азии, начинают говорить о том, что быть одной на улицах опасно, что в клубах можно выпить лишнего или встретить проходимцев. Они и понятия не имеют, что я не езжу в Бангкок, и вообще, когда я путешествую, никогда не пью и даже не имею идеи пойти в бар... Я всегда делаю подробный поиск мест, которые можно и нужно посетить, но клубы никогда не попадают в мой лист адресов... Объяснять все это случайным попутчикам и каждому новому человеку который удивляется моим путешествиям – просто нет смысла. В конце концов, не каждый может меня понять, так как я путешествую не для того, чтобы напиться как никогда в жизни или танцевать всю ночь напролет, или напробоваться новых коктелей, как многие, кто считает, что вырвался из привычной среды и окружения, а  значит, можно делать все, что хочешь и никто не будет тебя осуждать. Нет, клубное сумасшествие и ушар вечеринки  можно получить в любом городе, в любом клубе, в любой день, и будучи в клубе ты чаще всего не способен определить, в каком городе и стране находишься – темно, вспышки света, даже не поговорить, так как музыка гремит, да и окон нет, чтобы понять, какое время суто. И для этого не нужно ехать в дургую страну, и не нужно особого повода... Это можно получить каждый день и без путешествий... А вот увидеть одно из чудес света, посетить действующий более двух тысяч лет храм. Для этого стоит путешествовать и вставать  с рассветом.

В одной из поездок я пересеклась с парой из Малайзии – они были из Джохор Бару – города – пограничного с Сингапуром. Первое, что они сделали – это предупредили меня, что в ХоШиМине недавно обокрали туристов. Моей вежливости хватило на то, чтобы просто выслушать их предупреждение и поблагодарить за заботу.  Про себя же я думала, что кражи случаются каждый день, в любом городе, да и жертвами становятся не только туристы, но и свои же – местные. Дальше – больше. Мне сказали, что таксисты иногда катают туристов кругами, чтобы получить побольше денег за поездку. На что мне хотелось ответить, что я всегда примерно знаю маршрут и заранее проверяю, сколько времени должна занять поездка из аэропорта, и сколько она стоит, и даже, какая компания наиболее честная, какие другие трюки используются в этом конкретном городе, и так далее... Но больше всего мне хотелось сказать, что вообще-то я никогда не беру такси, а езжу на общественном транспорте, с местными, что я достаточно была в городе, чтобы договориться с местным мотоциклистом подбросить меня до города практически за бесценок...

Мало кто поймет мой стиль. Люди по большей части рассматривают путешествия как возможность почувствовать себя богатыми, получить удовольствие от роскоши, на которую у них нет денег каждый день. Все любят брать такси, когда путешествуют, но экономят и используют местный траспорт в родном городе. Все любят ковры отелей и душистое мыло мраморных ванных, роскошь номеров с зеркалами на потолке и видами из окон на море и пляж. Завтраки все включено с выбором свежевыжатых соков из пяти сортов фруктов. Я же путешествую, чтобы увидеть чтото новое, поэтому мне не важно, в каких условиях я сплю и чищу зубы для меня важно, что заплатив за ночь в отеле 5 долларов вместо 50, я могу за пару ночей сэкономить на еще одну поездку на длинные выходные в следубщем месяце. Та же пара из Джохор Бару завидовала мне, что я могу без пограничныых проблем проводить выходные на Сентозе и ходить в Universal Studios каждый раз. Им и в голову не могло прийти, что Парк развлечений на Сентозе – все эти магазины, кафе и рестораны, которые так привлекательно собраны на одном острове для  удобства выходных посещений, совсем мне не инетерсны и не представляют особой ценности только потому, что находятся в парке развлечений под одной крышей.

Поскольку цeль моих путешествий так сильно отличается от тех, что имеет большинство людей, я просто вынуждена была привыкнуть путешествовать одна, быть сама по себе, планировать, идти, исследовать, теряться и находить.  Через какое-то время я поняла, что мне даже некомфортно думать о том, что надо быть с кем-то, подстраиваться, ждать, фотографировать, обсуждать, выбирать ресторан, блюдо, составлять расписания и делиться впечатлениями.  Я настолько привыкла путешествовать одна, что даже свои впечатления стала записывать по ходу. В сущности, с этого и начались мои заметки, обзоры, статьи, постепенно захотелось публиковать все это он-лайн чтобы поделиться хоть частичкой того, что я видела с близкими.

Для большиснтва же людей вокруг, особенно азиатов, мысль о путешествии в одиночку вызывает непомерный ужас и приводит к отказу от поездок вообще ввиду того, найти партнеров, подстроиться под отпуска друзей и вытащить жену куда-либо, кроме шопинга просто невозможно. Да, им страшно отправиться в неизвестное место в одиночку, но не менее страшно и странно слушать и том, что девушка ездит куда-то одна и, по большей части, в такие места, куда им и в голову не придет взять билет. Вулканы и национальные парки, маленькие городки в горах и местные рынки. Слушать мои рассказы и ужасаться все могут бесконечно. Но большинству людей требуетсяя время осознать, что то, что для них край опасности – для кого-то просто приключение. У каждого свой порог страха перед неизвестностью. И если кто-то не отважится путешествовать в одиночку в малотуристическом районе, то это не значит, что никто другой туда не поедет. Всегда будут первопроходцы и пионеры, которые не идет проторенными тропами, а  открывают Америки и новые редкие виды животных находят исторические руины и запечетлевают неимоверные ландшафты. На этом держится мир, на этом движется мир.

Путешествия – это не просто транспорт и отели. Это новые впечатления и расширение кругозора. Это новый взгляд на мир и на себя, в том числе открытие в себе новых способностей – регать для себя, двигаться вперед, преодолевать свои страхи... и путешествовать в одиночку.

Lasalle is featuring Artism by children with ASD giving support to talented with Spectrum at ICA Galleries Singapore

Lasalle College of Arts continues to patronize and give exhibition space to young and talented and this time on the eve of 27th of February, truly special showcase was opened at Praxis Space & Project Space @ ICA - Artism by Spectrum.

Curated by Director of Institute of Contemporary Arts Dr. Charles Merewether, Artism is series of works by children from 8 to 18 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Works tematic ranges from  Singapore center landscapes to urban life objects such as taxis and from abstract pieces to nature and even mango and comics characters aiming to show, that every person can to recognized and honed as an artist.  Organized by Spectrum, a team of three BA (Hons) Lasalle Arts Management students Christine Fernando, Sharleen Chiu and Tessa Wong, Artism is part of i-AM 2013 Arts Festival and raising awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Exhibition will be featured until 8th of March and can be visited at Praxis Space & Project Space @ ICA, 1 McNally Street, from Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 6pm.

Looking to optimize efficiency - Founders Drinks for CTOs by e27 at Social Media Week Singapore

"Founders Drinks" in February 2013, monthly meetup by e27, web innovation platform in Asia, was handled within Social Media Week Singapore and aimed to look inside the minds of CTOs, who strategically look to optimize efficiency and success. 

Web developers, programmers, CTOs and founders gathered at the evening of the 21st February at Suffle Bistro Bar to share thoughts about optimization and development, listen to guests speakers, ask questions and make new business contacts. 

But first, Navin Surtani, Software Engineer for JBoss, was showing to the community how to program and launch Java applications in cloud, using Red Hat's OpenShift. Right after, three CTO panel speakers Eric Koh from JobsCentral and Travelogy, Rajesh Lingappa from RedMart and Ben Low from Start Now took scene to share their experience on how to be Chief Technology Officer and what tools should be used to improve efficiency at the company in terms of communications, operation and IT, as well as what is challenging in CTOs job and what difficulties technical specialists meet at the job market.

Continuing to share with you insights of fashion, fancy and star like life in Singapore, today is time to show "camera on" moments from LOL Talk Show recording for new Toggle channel run by MediaCorp in Singapore.

Coach host Judee Tan, who played before in musical Crazy Christmas, not only making laugh with Singapore scene stars, but also playing roles of cab driver and fashion video blogger in short videos. Fashion corner host Marcus A.C. is doing make up, changing girls style and presenting designers to the audience. Guest music stars performing live singing their latest records and all this is in atmosphere of good evening girls gossip laugh, that is really LOL level. 

For audience, who are strictly girls, recording starts with welcoming refreshments from sponsors dr.Cafe Coffee, pastries, chocolate puffs, tea and Somersby Apple Cider help girls to relax and get to know each other, as well as to hang out with hosts, guests and recording team. 

After that, recording begins. Judee is talking to the guests. On the evening of 25th of February, Pierre Png and Andrea De Cruz couple shared with audience their story of love and life together, followed by fun lovely Q&A game, that was aimed to check, how well did they get to know each other during 10 years together. Andrea get to answer, which of three dogs is favorite of Pierre, but the question, where does he like to be kissed was just LOL and answer stayed mystery. Celebrity chat was followed by audience strong support, fans of Pierre were shouting loud and got reward to the end, Pierre came to them to take lovely pictures. 

After that, Marcus took over attention presenting designers duo "Depression" - Director and designer Kenny Lim and Creative Director Andrew Loh, who has shown their latest collection "Plastic Surgery", transformable dresses and outfits for men and women. Brands fluorescent colored shoes and and accessories are got to be sold in ten outlets in Japan, but most of clothes in collection is playing with white and black colors. 

Judee Tan took third part over talking to quartet from "Edges the Musical" directed by Derrick Chew, that will be shown in Drama Center Blackbox at the National Library from 3rd to 19th of April. Guys performed the song "Be my Friend" (of course, on Facebook) to record it for LOL show.

LOL atmosphere is truly enjoyable and fun to be in, recording is easy and naturally done with hosts and star guests being friendly to audience, taking pictures, chatting and laughing.

LOL series are still recording to be shown on Toggle in April. To experience live talk show recording, you just need to reserve your seat for one of the dates... From 5th to 9th or from 18th to 20th March. Time is very convenient - have girls night out from 6.30 pm to 9 pm. The venue is in the center - Gallery @ Scape, level 5, 2 Orchard Link.

Proving power of Social Media. Models for new fashion collection Jonah by Noel Caleb get hundreds "Likes" in first 24 hours

It's been only 24 hours since Noel Caleb announced results of Model X Blogger Search, we were writing about last time, but one of 16 models, Elaine Jasmine under #5, chosen for Noel Caleb new clothes collection Jonah runway show, already got 150 Likes from Fans, who supported her within models competition.

Noel Caleb new clothes collection Jonah is brought by cohort of on-line store run Associates Programme 2012 participants Singaporean Loretta Chen, Indonesian Katarina Ketty Yeo and Russian Sophie Ksenia. According to Noel Caleb announcement, Jonah is "based on a character which is defiant and gone through many stormy episodes in life due to her rebellious nature to finally learn".

On the 19th of February Noel Caleb handled Model X Blogger Search at their venue @ The Co, where models were required to to make couple of shoots, walk down the stairs and record thirty second bio about themselves and why do they are interested in Noel Caleb runway.

As a result, 13 models and 3 bloggers were listed at the Noel Caleb Fanpage in Facebook to run Jonah fashion show, that will be part of CoverShot Girl 2013 Competition Final Night by new on-line magazine and goodies portal OMG Paradise @ Zouk from 6pm to 10 pm on the 23rd of March, where Noel Caleb will be presented in judges panel.

Noel Caleb also run their own competition between chosen models, as girls can win 300S$ by getting the most "Likes" on their photo on Noel Caleb's Fanpage. As a requirement users should "Like" on-line store Fanpage as well as photo. And participants really confirm the power of social media and show creativity, trying to get "Likes". As for example, one of video bloggers Sulastri Kamis (nickname Luin Faniel) created Youtube post, asking all her followers for support. Model #3 Clarissa Cattleya shared her picture asking for voices, because of her coming birthday. As numbers raised to hundreds already first day of competition, it's hard to imagine, how many thousands "Likes" will have winning Model, who will be announced on the 23rd of March.

Besides chance to run the show, every model will be given complimentary clothes as an exchange as well as photos and videos worth 500S$.

As promised, we will be reporting about models competition, as well as about preparation to runway and show evening itself, as Blondie Asian is credited by Noel Caleb to debut at runway and you can vote for model #7 on Fanpage. But bloggers role is always to review things, so we will be happy to report about inside of model, fashion and runway life. For two other bloggers chosen for runway, Sulastri Kamis #15, who run Youtube channel, and Juliana Chong #11, who run IloveBunny and recently launched web-site HoneyzCube, it will be also first time to be a model. So we are very excited to cover the project and deliver you all insights about models life.

You can expect updates on the 5th of March, as it will be first models gathering, training and catwalk, as well as reports from rehearsals on the 20th - 22nd of March and, of course, the hottest updates from general repetition at the morning of 23rd of March from the venue in Zouk.
